This was a quick, easy read, but also had depth to the characters. It could have been longer, but the story was told between these pages. I love the relationship that the employees from Barton's developed. Made you want to visit and hang out over tea.
This book is a great way to unwind at the end of the day. The author has written a book that reads very easily and has engaging characters. The only problem with it is that it reads so well you find yourself on the last page far sooner than you wished!
Anytime you have a story you are really enjoying, it is naturally to feel let down when it ends. You just want more! I liked the way the author fit everything in and created a satisfying ending, even if I wanted to keep reading and reading. )
This little novella goes a bit deeper than the average Christmas or love triangle story. [SPOILER ALERT] The heroine, appropriately named Marley, is jilted by her fiance in the weeks before the holidays, only to be courted by a waiter at her favorite restaurant. The fiance, Michael, is staid, money-motivated, and a dedicated climber of social ladders; the waiter, Rob, is more of a free spirit, with a past that's taught him to look more deeply at people to see what's really there. Marley isn't just choosing the man she'll marry; she's selecting her lifestyle and values at the same time. [END SPOILER ALERT]
Elaine Cantrell's writing is direct and easily followed, with just the right details described to pull the reader into the story without dictating the scene being imagined. Her characters are fun although they could be even more deeply developed, and the moment when Marley makes her final decision is wonderful. (I'd have laughed at him, too.) Five stars on the story and writing.
The Table In the Window by Elaine Cantrell is an extremely quick read not worth the price. I like this author, but she really could have done so much more with this story. I was left with more questions than answers. So if you are looking for a quick little holiday read without much depth - this story is for you. It is a quick - clean romance.
